The use of handcuffs as a restraint tool is common practice by law enforcement and security officers. The process of handcuffing is intrinsically a dangerous process due to the officer being placed in very close proximity to the person being arrested. Due to the high level of risk to the officer it is imperative that he be trained to quickly and efficiently control and handcuff the individual. Handcuff tactics need to be simple to deploy from a variety of positions and under varying circumstances.
Our Handcufing Instructor program utilizes curriculum from Personal Safety Training Incorporated (PSTI). This Handcuffing Tactics™ course teaches a direct and logical method for applying handcuffs. The curriculum is designed to provide instructors a methodology rich in education and skill development tools. There are no complicated grips or confusing tactics taught in this class. We provide the student a method of application that works prone, kneeling, standing, passive or aggressive. We stress the development of muscle memory by multiple cycles of application of handcuffs during the course.
With quick and efficient application of the handcuffs the officer is safer and potential for injury is reduced. With proper instruction in the application of handcuffs, ensuring proper placement and fit of the restraint, and care of the arrested individual the potential for injury and the resulting liability is mitigated or eliminated.
